The National Irish Safety Organisation Limited, trading as National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO), is a company limited by guarantee not having a share capital, registered in Dublin, Ireland with registered office at A11 Calmount Park, Ballymount, Dublin 12, D12 EH21 and registered company number 183138.

NISO promotes occupational health and safety.

National Irish Safety Organisation is a registered charity (number 20008598).

NISO Structure

NISO is a national not-for-profit, membership-based organisation promoting occupational health and safety.

The organisation has a Head Office in South West Dublin and eight regions each with its own committee.

At national level, the Executive Committee consists of representatives from the following nominating bodies: Health and Safety Authority (HSA), Ibec and The Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU). The Committee also comprises of regional representatives and general elected members.

All members of NISO are eligible for election to the Executive Committee of the National Irish Safety Organisation.

Role of NISO

Established in 1963, NISO is over sixty years in operation. We implement our mission in practical ways to remain valid and relevant:

  • With a not-for-profit ethos, an autonomous and wholly Irish operation
  • By sharing new safety policy and regulations
  • Through being of service to our members with an engaged and committed member network
  • By promoting a safety culture through a series of events such as the All Ireland Safety Awards, the Safety Conference and seminars and workshops, some in collaboration with other organisations such as the Health and Safety Authority
  • With the commitment and leadership of the Executive Committee and the regional network of volunteers With the contribution of NISO's secretariat in Dublin
  • By developing new training courses and services to train new generations of health and safety professionals
  • By nurturing strong links with the Health and Safety Authority, The Irish Congress of Trade Union and Ibec
  • By collaborating with NISG for the All Ireland Occupational Health & Safety Awards and the All Ireland Occupational Safety Quiz
  • By developing strategic alliances with commercial organisations to tackle specific safety and health at work campaigns
  • By providing a quality service with a smile to our members, clients and other health and safety stakeholders.

NISO Services

  • We organise both public and in-house training courses. Public courses are held at our training centre in Ballymount, Dublin 12 or online, while in-house training can be delivered at our centre, at the client’s premises or online. All courses are led by experienced instructors who are active in their fields of expertise;
  • We keep our membership abreast of the latest news and developments in Health and Safety with regular communications;
  • We organise events;
  • We publish, for our members, a quarterly e-magazine, NISO Update, that features articles from industry leaders and discusses topical health and safety issues.  Here is a sample copy of the spring 2025 issue: Download Update Magazine
